In 1981, SP 4449 was returned to its original "Daylight" colors for the first Railfair at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, California. It started its journey running Portland to Klamath Falls on April 25, 1981. Helpers were SP 9338 Oakridge to Klamath Falls and SSW 9373 Oakridge to Cascade Summit.

- Steam in the Cascades
- On Saturday, April 25, 1981, Southern Pacific (SP) 9338 and SSW 9373 helped 4449 from Oakridge to Cascade Summit as it was heading south to Railfair 1981, the Grand Opening of the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA. In this photo the train is at Wicopee, OR in the Cascades.
