This locomotive was upgraded in April 1982 emerging as SSW 7963 a model GP40R, SP Class EF430CR-1.
The disposition of this locomotive is, According to Ryan Martin, "(the 7600 was) SP rebuild renumbering to SSW 7963, then speed lettered to SP 7963, then patched to UP (Union Pacific) 1459." It was later repainted. According to Benny Cardone, "it's in West Colton today (Dec. 2014) getting PTC installed." According to Ryan:
The UP 1459 (nee SSW 7600, ex-SSW 7963) is indeed the oldest active former SP/SSW/DRGW locomotive frame/carbody on the UP system at a ripe 49 years old. Harry, Paul E and I were just discussing this unit a few weeks ago noting the half century mark coming up. UP can thank SP's GRIP overhaul shop forces for tacking on an extra three decades of service life to the 7600/7963/1459.

With PTC equipment going in, it looks like the former SSW 7600 will live on for several more years to come!

NOTE: If anything is my "life's work" it's my train photos. — If you scan an analog photo of mine, or if you share a digital photo I took that does not have my photo credit, add something like "Photo by Steve Sloan" directly onto the image. It's not enough to say "Photo by Steve Sloan" in the text caption. People download photos off the Internet/Social Media platform and whatever is in the text does not stick to the photo. Then, they get reshared and that data is lost. I deserve credit for my work.
