SP 3600 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7

SP 3600 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7. Reportedly: SP 3600 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 22941, SP 5759, SP Class DF-607.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3600 SP Class EF418-7.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1975 emerging as SP 3803 EMD GP9R, SP Class EF418E-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retired in 1991 and sold in 1992. It became Yolo Shortline 131.
SP 3600 in Roseville
Southern Pacific GP9 3600 heads west around the wye on the east side of Roseville, CA on a warm Sundy, June 28, 1973. This was two months to the day after the explosions that caused so much damage to the Antelope end of that yard.
SP 3600 in Suisun
Southern Pacific GP9 3600 (even) is in Suisun, CA on Sunday, July 14, 1974. OPRRMS said: "Spelled "Suisun," actually, as in Suisun-Fairfield. The unit is sitting on one of the tracks at the old engine house (note the old sand house in the left background) that was located between the mainlines and the east leg of the wye, about a half-mile west of the depot. The unit is mostly likely the Suisun Local's power, during the time SP stationed a Road Switcher there. Your dad probably worked it when he was on the Extra Board."
SP 3658 with 3600 in Roseville
Southern Pacific (SP) GP9 3658 is leading GP9 3600 on the west leg of the wye off the Valley Subdivision into Roseville, CA on Sunday, September 8, 1974.

A classic Southern Pacific GP9, 3600 is at Tracy CA on an unrecorded date in 1975.

SP 3604 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7

SP 3604 is an EMD GP9 SP Class EF418-7. Reportedly: SP 3604 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 22945, SP 5763, SP Class DF-607.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3604 SP Class EF418-7.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1975 emerging as SP 3786 EMD GP9R, SP Class EF418E-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retired and sold in 1995. Became Inter-Rail Link (IRTX) 1101, In 1998 became Arco Products 4554.
SP 3604 in Oakland, CA
Southern Pacific (SP) GP9 3604 leads GP9R 3749 on an unknown date in June 1974 in Oakland, CA. According to OPRRMS, "The train is eastbound (southbound), just about to cross Market Street, between Magnolia Tower and Jack London Square. The building in the right background is gone, but the other one in the left background is still there, converted to small business and lofts/work spaces. The 3604 was unique for having a replacement Leslie S3 horn. It's visible in this photo. The unit likely acquired it from the UP during the time SP and UP had a run-thru operation between Roseville and North Platte/Council Bluffs during the early 1960's. Both railroads suppplied GP9's."

SP 3608 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7

SP 3608 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7 Reportedly: SP 3608 was built by EMD in 1957 as SP GP9 5767, SP Class DF-611 builder number 22949. In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3608 SP Class EF418-7.
This locomotive was upgraded in Jan. 1977 emerging as SP 3760 EMD GP9R, SP Class EF418E-3. It was retired in 1993. It was sold to Omni-Trax in 1995.

Southern Pacific (SP) 3608 sits with U33C 8638 and others in Tracy on Sunday, March 18, 1973 waiting for a call to work.

SP 3611 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7

SP 3611 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418-7. Reportedly: SP 3611 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 22952, SP 5770, SP Class DF-611.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3611 SP Class EF418-7.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1977 emerging as SP 3800 EMD GP9R, SP Class EF418R-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retred 1991. Sold 1997. Presumed scrapped.
SP 3611 in Roseville
Southern Pacific Black Widow GP9 3611 is on the Rock Pile lead at Antelope, Roseville, CA Yard on Sunday, June 28, 1973. This was two months to the day after the explosions that caused so much damage to the Antelope end of that yard. According to OPRRMS, "By then, the 3611 was the last Pacific Lines GP9 to retain this paint scheme, although there were a number of Cotton Belt units and a couple of ex-T&NO units that lasted longer. Not long after Steve's photo, Roseville applied scarlet and grey paint to various areas of the unit, covering up the silver and orange areas and the red frame stripe, but leaving the black areas black."
SP 3611 in East Pleasanton
SP Black Widow GP9 3611 was one of the last black and silver units in service. It spent awhile working the East Pleasanton job, laying over in perfect light, on an unrecorded date in 1973.
SP 3611 "half widow" in Roseville again
Half repainted Southern Pacific GP9 "half-widow" 3611 is again at Roseville, CA. This time with GP9 3694 on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1974.

SSW 3642 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1

SSW 3642 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1. Reportedly: SSW 3642 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 24076, SSW 821, SSW Class Z-17.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SSW 3642 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1
This locomotive was upgraded in 1975 becoming GP9 (GP9R) SSW 3811 SP Class EF418S-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retired and sold in 1995. Presumed scrapped.
SSW 3642 in Phoenix, AZ
Cotton Belt (SSW) GP9 3642 sits in the sun in Phoenix, AZ on an unknown date in May 1972. I got this in trade and I wish I knew who the photographer of this was. I think it is a fellow named "Jerry". If it is yours, please let me know.

SSW 3644 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1. Reportedly: SSW 3644 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 24078, SSW 823, SSW Class Z-17.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SSW 3644 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1978 as GP9 (GP9R) SSW 3813 SP Class EF418CR-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retired and sold in 1993. Became Yolo Shortline 132.

Southern Pacific (SP) subsidiary Cotton Belt (SSW) GP9 3644 is in Indio, CA with an SP GP30 on an unknown date in May 1972. This slide looks better in black and white than any color correction I could do to try to fix it.

SSW 3645 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-1. Reportedly: SSW 3645 was built in 1957 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 24079, SSW 824, SSW Class Z-17. In 1965 it was renumbered to SSW 3645, SP Class SP Class EF418C-1.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1975 emerging as GP9 (GP9R) SSW 3810 SP Class EF418S-3.
The disposition of this locomotive is, retired in 1990, sold to Pioneer Railcorp for Mississippi Central 3810, sold in 1996 to Keokuk Junction.
SSW 3645 in Taylor Yard.
Cotton Belt GP9 3645 is in LA’s Taylor Yard on October 22, 1974.

SSW 3648 EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-2

SSW 3648 is an EMD GP9, SP Class EF418C-2. Reportedly: According to good sources, including Strapac's fantastic SP Compendium series, SSW 3648 was built in 1959 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 25017, SSW 827, SSW Class Z-17. In 1965 it was renumbered to SSW 3648 SP Class EF418C-2.
The disposition of this locomotive is, not upgraded, retired in 1987 sold to Wilson Rail Services, chopnosed in 1988 became Farmrail 3648.

Cotton Belt (SSW) GP9 3648 in Watsonville Junction, California an unrecorded day in December 1974. The GP9 in front of it is the SP 3401.
